Vibrant, Safe and Smart

In celebration of Caribbean American Heritage Month, the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library hosts the Caribbean Film Festival, every Wednesday in June at 6:00 p.m. (pre-screening reception at 5:00). This event is free and open to the public, and featured films include: Fire In Babylon, Calypso Dreams, Troubled Waters and Akwantu: The Journey

Here are some photos from this morning’s Atlanta Better Buildings Challenge ceremony celebrating Atlanta Gas Light’s achievements on the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center.

Through participation in the Atlanta BBC, the Atlanta Civic Center has already created 89 jobs, and has saved the all-electric facility $93,000 in utility costs of the past six months (and it is projected to save the City $200,000 annually.)

Keep up the great work in making our city center more sustainable!

Speaking of downtown, I have a weekend recommendation: Auburn Avenue, normally very quiet on a Saturday, will be transformed by huge crowds of people for the Sweet Auburn SpringFest this weekend, May 11-13. It’s always an impressive sight.
I Just hope I can squeeze through and get to Sweet Auburn Curb Market for my family’s usual Saturday lunch visit.

The GWCCA participated in the Downtown Atlanta Earth Day Clean Up Challenge.

In conjunction with the City of Atlanta, Central Atlanta Progress and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), this event encourages individuals and organizations in the downtown area to clean up neglected areas in support of Earth Day.

The GWCCA Green Team picked up trash and recyclables along the west side of Northside Drive across from our campus before heading to Centennial Olympic Park for a public rally featuring Mayor Kasim Reed.

Go Green Team!
